Alcohol Focus Scotland is the national voluntary organisation for alcohol issues. We are working to improve the quality of people's lives by changing Scotland's drinking culture. We want to see a Scotland where:
- moderate, responsible drinking is the norm, and drunkenness is socially unacceptable
- fewer children have to live with the harmful effects of adult drinking and fewer families break up due to alcohol
- our villages, towns and cities are free from alcohol fuelled violence and disorder and people who do have a problem with alcohol can get help quickly and effectively
- all alcohol producers and retailers take their legal and social responsibilities seriously and significantly fewer Scottish lives are lost to alcohol
We work to achieve change by:
- providing information and advice on safe drinking
- training volunteers to become alcohol counsellors in their local communities
- working with employers on how to encourage and support their staff to drink responsibly
- providing training to professionals working with people with alcohol problems
- working with alcohol manufacturers and retailers to encourage them to make, advertise, and sell alcohol responsibly
- providing training to licensees, managers and bar staff in all aspects of responsible selling
- working with, and advising, the Scottish Executive on public information campaigns, legislation and policy
