Four year old Ross from Prestwick was only 11 months old when he was diagnosed with a bilateral Wilms Tumour.
When his parents Eileen and Sean took him to the doctor they referred them to the hospital where they had some tests and an ultrasound.
The scan showed large tumours in both of his kidneys. Finding out Ross had cancer was a complete shock - as far as they were concerned, he had some sort of bug
Since then Ross has had all sorts of treatment - chemotherapy and an operation to remove the tumours. He was very poorly for a while and spent about a week in intensive care, but thankfully he is now on the mend.
Every 3 months he has scans to check that things are ok and throughout all this they have been supported by CLIC Sargent who amongst other things, they provided a financial grant to help cover the expenses associated with having a child with cancer. Also take-away food at hospital visits, travel expenses to and from the hospital and help with phone bills. Eileen said
"CLIC Sargent helped us immensely and kept things as normal as possible, which was particularly important to us as we have a 7 year old daughter Chloe Ann to consider".

Eileen and her husband Shaun are now committed supporters of CLIC Sargent and regular fundraisers for Malcolm Sargent House now and in 2006 they have personally raised over £15,000 to help other families.
Last year Shaun organised a Boxing Day Dip on Prestwick Seafront gaining the support from over 700 onlookers and 120 participants. A fun (but freezing) day was had by all and this year is bracing himself for repeating the exercise.
