Mark's Duke of Edinburgh adventure
Sense Scotland work with disabled children and young adults like Mark. In March 2006 18-year-old Mark, celebrated two years hard work by collecting his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Mark's remarkable journey began in 2004 when he joined a group of deafblind performers from five different countries together to devise and perform the play, 'Voyager Princess'. His talents were tested further when he teamed up with our music tutor David McCluskey and joined drumming group Partick Beat for three months rehearsal before performing in Glasgow's West End Festival.

"The drumming experience has been fantastic for Mark," explained David McCluskey. "it was a very fulfilling journey and one where he has shown inspirational creativity and motivation."
The final challenge was the physical stage and Mark, working with Joe Gibson, our Outdoor Education Tutor, decided on rock climbing, culminating in his navigation of Windy Hill in Glasgow's Muirshiel country park. The climb lived up to its name with heavy rain and wind making for a treacherous expedition with Mark showing great determination and stamina to reach the summit.
"There was a wee bit of rain but it was good," Mark said of the climb. "I really enjoyed it."
Mum Elaine added that, "He's spoken about the award and activities ever since."
